How do you prevent tattoos from fading?

beautfulword:How do you prevent tattoos from fading?
I’m soon to get a tattoo but I like to lay out in the sun to tan. What can I do to prevent it from fading?

Answer by Nikki
put plenty of sunscreen on before and after every 30 mins of being in the sun

Answer by Think Before You Ink
The sun is the number one reason tattoos end up looking like crap. If you can keep it out of the sun then that would be best.

Maybe you can put it somewhere it won’t hit direct sunlight, although that’s a little “naughty” haha. Best advice is keep it from the rays. Slather on the sun tan lotion. Not only do they fade, the sun can cause the lines to actually bleed over and start blurring. It looks really awful.

However, you can always go get it touched up a few years down the road if need be.

Absolutely nothing. That is part of having tattoos, and it is obviously one of the down sides. You cannot prevent it from fading, but you can retard the fading process. if you ever have it exposed to sun for longer periods of time, put sun screen on it. it will slow down fading, but it will not prevent it from happening, that is part of having ink and you will have to deal with it and get them touched up. i have a full sleeve among others, and i usually wear long sleeve shirts, and if not i put sun screen on even if im in the sun for 10 minutes. i want my ink to last longer so i protect it very well.

Sun is your tattoo’s number one enemy. Cover that rascal with sunscreen/block 30 minimum. It’s either that, or stay off the beach. And that would really suck, sunscreen is better! Take care.

do not expose a fresh tattoo to the sun. avoid direct sunlight until the tattoo is fully healed and use a high spf sunscreen on it when tanning after that.

use lubriderm brand lotion, 2 or 3 times a day every day. and red fades the fastest. but whenever you get it, do NOT use neosporin to keep it from scabing and getting infected, use tha generic equate tripple antibiotic ointment instead. the neosporin will fade it before it even has tha chance 2 go to the beach

use the highest sunblock possible….
