What are magnum tattoo needles used for?
Tammy:What are magnum tattoo needles used for?
I’m an aspiring tattoo artist (My husband bought me a professional kit as a present because I am talented drawing and I’ve actually done 4 tattoos on him, one on his brother and one on myself (before I got preggo) teaching myself (through the ultimate tattoo bible) and they turned out awesome, but I have only used 1 – 9 round liners and 3 – 9 round shaders. I have some magnums but I haven’t used them yet bc I really don’t know what they are used for. I am getting an apprenticeship after I have our baby (I’m due in December its our 2nd child), so I can get liscensed and open my own shop one day. But thanks for the answers in advance!
Here’s a couple that I’ve done:

Hi there,
Excellent Question!
Magnum needles, because of their size are primarily used for large areas of color, shading and Grey washing.
Hope this helps!

Magnums cover more area than the rounds for shading. They make a M1 magnum, which is basically a flat with every other needle raised, and a M2 magnum which is a double stack of needles welded together in an alternating pattern (,’,',’,). The magnums are normally used for shading large areas… especially when doing black and gray tats.
